Texas Norte Not

The latest development in our local drought: Communities are beginning to cancel 4th of July fireworks.

“Fire on the River”, a spectacular fireworks show over the Wisconsin River at Sauk City, scheduled for Saturday night, was cancelled yesterday because of the “extremely dry conditions”, and, since no rain is predicted for the next 10 days, other communities will probably follow suit.

So much for being Texas Norte. Texas would double the fireworks during a drought, burn the whole state down and y’all be damned.

Things are bad enough that the day lilies are going dormant. When day lilies go dormant in June, the end is near, no doubt about it.

Okay, I said I wanted to get back into creative writing after retiring…

Do drooping dusty daylilies doze drearily, dormant, dreaming drowsily, darkly during drought despite despondent Daddy’s decidedly desperate drenching doses delivered daily?
